SAN DIEGO, California –  A motorcyclist allegedly driving at “excessive speeds” ran through an intersection then struck and killed a pedestrian Monday on Carmel Mountain Road and Sundance Avenue, according to a San Diego Medical Examiner’s report.

About 9:30 p.m., Jesse Stephenson Arnold, 26, a U.S. Army soldier stationed in San Diego, was riding his 2011 Ducati motorcycle when he crashed into the pedestrian Shawn Christopher Arballo, 29, of Rancho Penasquitos who was out walking his dog near his home, the report said.

Emergency workers responding to the scene of the motorcycle versus pedestrian accident pronounced both men dead at the scene.

The North County Times reported that police investigating the motorcycle accident estimated that the motorcycle rider was traveling at speeds of about 80 mph. The impact threw the two men about 300 feet and the motorcycle landed about 500 feet from the point of impact.

Arballo’s dog, a terrier mix named Chubs, was not injured in the crash, according to the article.

“Indeed there are truly no words that can lift the burden of grief and sorrow the family and friends of these two young men are experiencing right now,” Attorney West Seegmiller said.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they cope with this terrible loss.”
